Well, consider the way they make references to humans. It’s conceivable that this might be based in our future in some ways, and there’s scientific evidence that at some point in the future, days will be longer than the days we know. It wouldn’t be surprising if there end up being more days too.
Well, one explanation could be that this is a future Earth. And when I say future, I mean FUTURE. Scientists believe that about 500 million years ago, a day was only about 20 hours and a year was less than 365.25 days.
Some funny animal cartoons are simply a case of substituting animal characters for humans, but in this one, it’s supposed to be a real animal world. so these details do matter. Like, how far away is the Moon these days?
So unless we’re *talking* about a geologic time frame, its a lot more likely that the hours and days would have stayed the same, just gotten a little longer.
It’s an interesting phenomena however that people will analyze fictional setting’s in the effort to come up with a reasonable explanation for the item without the author ever intending for said item to become cannon or lore.
It could just be a cultural construct. Seven days was used by ancient Hebrews because of the story of creation. Since Christian couture followed the Jewish calendar, it was predominant in Europe and began to spread through out the world. Early Roman and Egyptian weeks were 8 days, Celts used 9 days while the Chinese and the first French republic used 20 days, and the Mayan and Aztecs used a 13 day week. Japanese and Koreans used a 5 day week and the Basque had a three day week so they got paid more often. (I could go with that)
My biggest worry with this baby sitter is that Tanya and Benni will get caught doing something and the sitter could take it the wrong way and it could lead to rumors about the family. I also think it’s good that Volin wants to set limits on the kids so they’re not just surrounded by sex. Though, honestly, Tanya will probably just get bored of it after a while; that’s how it was for me at least when I first started exploring.

It’s conceivable that humans, which are now gone or extinct, “uplifted” other beasts many centuries/eaons ago and these races continued .to evolve until they have reached the point presented in the story. Hence the probable time alteration alluded too. It also explains the veneration the beasts have toward the “masters.”

I wonder if it’s a typo, or it’s genuinely a thing in their world.
Kind of reminds me of that Beatles song Eight Days A Week, I’m thinking there’s a meaning behind the 25 hours he mentioned.

Colin colorfully saying “more than all the time”?

I don’t think this is THAT far into the future.
Could be whatever caused humans to no longer be around had a lasting effect…
Y’all are overthinking this lol
Definitely.
My grandfather used to say the 25/8/366 thing, meaning the same thing other people do when they say “Giving 110%” … i.e., Extra effort.
And he was born in 1922, so…

IIRC, it’s moving away from the Earth at around 1 1/2″ a year… or 3.7 mm.
That’s pretty slow even on a geologic time frame.

Y’all are taking the science a bit too seriously. So… instead of having a bit of fun with a future setting, I’ve changed it to be a lit less pedantic.
TBH, I didn’t expect that things would escalate that quickly when I’ve wondered if it’s a typo or just an artistic-license thingy.
Aww. Here I was hoping the conversation could delve into a base 8 mathematical system due to number of digits and the use of octades…
Spoilsport. 😂

Just look at what happens in the Freefall forums.
I missed the original. What was it before “24/7/365”?
Something like 26/8/369?
The original was 25/7/367.

Actually, Hebrews used 7 days a week because that’s what the Babylonians and Chaldeans used. The same way we still use the 24 hour clock.
Odds on them managing to do something anyway?
