Also, does anybody else find it odd that Tali can’t seem to remember Hunter’s name? I find it somewhat disturbing. This isn’t the first time she’s been reminded.
She also didn’t remember very much that what she did wasn’t a “game” and did hurt Hunter. It’s likely that Tali is struggling with memory issues as a result of CSA.
Tali is five. If she is thinking of people that way–and she isn’t– it’s because she was taught that way and she’s learning otherwise. But also Take a step back. You’re reading a webcomic. The webcomic, as a whole, has mostly been about rescue and recovery from abuse and neglect. The bad guys are the adults that did this to the children who are victims. Tali has some bad behaviors that she’s been taught and that she’s learned. These are very bad behaviors but it has literally been a few days in the comic since everything began. Healing, growth, these things… Read more »
I know Tali is five. I am likewise aware that this is a webcomic. It is also a webcomic which is dealing with real-life issues. I also know that my daughter as a Foster parent is RIGHT NOW dealing with a *six-year-old* who has been conditioned like this, and who has been engaging her siblings sexually. Tali and this 6-year-old who calls me PawPaw aren’t evil… and I never said that. You’ll NEVER hear me say that. What she IS, is conditioned. And if she is already beginning to think of her “partners” (for lack of a better term) as… Read more »
Respectfully, your original comment didn’t cover any of that. Not that you need to unload your personal history to make a comment here, but what you *did* originally say focuses entirely on the negative effect–“it could be memory issues from her abuse” “or she’s thinking of her victims as objects and becoming an abuser herself” There’s no ‘maybe’ there. It comes off like you’re *correcting* the person you were replying to, instead of adding another possibility. As a result, it looks a lot like you’re demonizing the victim. The comments section around here is regularly filled with people who regularly… Read more »
yesss thank u. the way puffnstuff worded it erked me. a bit. COCSA is a real thing but- almost all of the time it because the offender- NOT abuser- was being abused themselves. also in all honesty- i dont think that tali wouldn’t be the one with memory repressions’ think that comment of her forgetting hunters name was just some flavor text to fill out the page a bit more.
I don’t think so. At most she was taught that boys “are stronger than girls” and “only cry when they receive a kick in the nuts”, besides having the wrong belief that touching others’ private parts is a “game” (or “family time” if it’s with her father and/or Benny). However, she’s in an age when kids are still learning right from wrong, and it’s not something that takes few hours to fully grasp the difference between both (and for a sexually abused child, it’s harder). Although we don’t know exactly how long did Tali’s father abuse her, the chances of… Read more »
The kind of conditioning Talitha has isn’t just going to disappear in a few days. She isn’t ready to be around naked boys unsupervised. Flora usually has good judgment but asking Kaleb to look after her is just a bad idea. But who knows? Maybe Tali can prove she can be a good girl and keep her hands to her.
Waiting too long is certainly a bad idea. But I don’t think another day/night will make that much of a difference in terms of Tali’s recovery. Maybe she’s right and she really can refrain from unwanted touching, if she knows that others don’t like being grabbed without their permission.

Um…
Kaleb, perhaps you’ve heard of Tempting Fate?
Not really a good idea.

Or, she’s already starting to think of her victims as objects.
A first step on the way to becoming an abuser herself.
It’s possible. But in all fairness, at her age I absolutely sucked at remembering names.

Honestly, she gave me a few nightmares as a kid XD

That, and a TRUCKLOAD of therapy.
Something that she needs as well.
Forgot to mention that she was rescued from her father’s dirty paws literally yesterday (in the comic), so her new life is barely starting.
Not quite yesterday, but it’s been very recent, yes.
You can almost hear the gears turning in Tali’s mind as she looks at Hunter.
It’s Kaleb.
Du-uh. I don’t have any idea why I said Hunter.
kaleb i am SHAKING you sit UP!!!
He’s presenting himself as bait to see if Tali really can behave herself.
aaa thats not gOOD!
Is she just fascinated by the fact that boys have outties?

There’s really only one way to know for sure, which is wait and see what she does next.
Which can be a really bad idea.
Waiting too long is certainly a bad idea. But I don’t think another day/night will make that much of a difference in terms of Tali’s recovery. Maybe she’s right and she really can refrain from unwanted touching, if she knows that others don’t like being grabbed without their permission.
You know, with what happened recently to her, Kaleb is liable to get a “backstory” from her that he might not want to hear.
