This comic used to treat this stuff more realistically but it seems like Campion is straddling the lanes. I like loli/shota/cub but I don’t like that this comic went from realistic portrayals of childhood sexuality to one that seems focused on eroticism without going all the way. I like the comic and I have nothing against Compion making this series but I feel like it would be better if he “picked a lane” so to speak. I have to agree. I’m quite sexually liberal, but there are issues with boundaries and consent that aren’t being addressed properly. Studies show that an age gap much more then 2 years between children in sexual situations is likely to result in the younger child being hurt. The fact that the younger child is the one who mostly wants to pursue things makes it less likely they would be hurt, but 3 years would still be a bit too dangerous a age gap… More importantly survivors of sexual abuse do not need more sex thrown on them! All of these are valid concerns. Things like consent and such will be addressed, but just keep in mind that even if that is discussed, the characters are far from perfect. They will make mistakes, They might not make the most ‘moral’ of decisions. They are ‘human’, as it were.
All good point. Bu Tali has already been subjected to conditioning by her father and who knows how many others.The damage has already been done in her case. Anything done now can only be damage control and attempts at mitigation, in hopes of walking her back to something along the lines of what she would’ve been otherwise. I agree that the kids are definitely too young to be exploring to the level that some of them have been shown and I also agree that the kids need to be taught more about consent. At the same time, I don’t see anything Campion has made as “erotic”. For me, the difference between eroticism and simple discussion of sexual matters is the intent; the intent here is to explore these topics and how they are handled, right or wrong, and that sometimes means showing some things rather rawly. I feel rather similar, however I get the sense that a reckoning is coming. What feels like a tone shift also feels like ignorance for some of the characters to me. My prediction: Best case scenario is Colin losing his relationship (at least temporarily) with Flora. Worst case: Colin ends up getting prosecuted.
I really hope he doesn’t get prosecuted, he’s such a brainless dope.
