But I suppose they do happen, after all, we have a word for it.
OTOH, Cokie Roberts was a well-known reporter during a similar time period. A sly reference to an existing, famous reporter who was active in the 90s is statistically more likely than an actual coincidence.
Actually they are being quite stupid in their position that anything that can be used as a weapon has to be banned. Where does that sort of stupid mentality stop?
Demons can be anywhere. Who would have thought Bill Cosby of all people was someone who serially raped and drugged women, and got away with it for fifty years? It was BLACK comedian Hannibal Burress who outed him to the world, in response to Cosby’s moralizing to the black community.
Considering what we’ve seen in the real world, it’s a very accurate description. People go out of their way to look for any little thing to try and demonize and prosecute in the name of protecting children, even if it involves prosecutors coaching children on what to say in order to secure an indictment against an innocent person who did nothing wrong.
There is the MacMartin Preschool case, where a malicious prosecutor deliberately coached children to lie, but his crime was exposed and the MacMartin family exonerated.
Wow, I wasn’t expecting the arrest to happen now. Question is, what will Leroy do once he’s in police custody? Also, this story takes place in the 90s, right? Wasn’t the whole scapegoating video games thing more of an early 00s thing?
Given the severity of the crime involved, I have no doubt that Laroy will be arrested as well. He *is* a direct accomplice.
Probably BethAnne as well, since she instigated the event
Sorry for being late, but after re-reading the comic, I would say that Beth Anne could get arrested for being an accomplice as well; not only for instigating the incident, but also for helping Jestan to tie Tanya up.
Huh. I guess shit will really hit the fan if there’s a sudden mass interest in D&D…or whatever the equivalent would be. Caves & Claws?
I remember having to listen to my oldest sister ranting about my interests. Then again, she is the sort that put the ‘fun’ and ‘mental’ in Fundamental Christian. >.>
There was a story on “60 Minutes” where some teenagers ended up committing suicide when they got a curse put on them when they played Dungeons & Dragons games. On top of that certain songs supposedly caused teenagers to commit suicide as well. These lawsuits against song producers all got dismissed of course.
There was also an entire organization created by a woman who blamed D&D for her son committing suicide. Of course, none of these people could ever prove these claims; their logic was basically “they played D&D and then they killed themselves, therefore it was D&D”. Of course, this was the 80s, and during that time, there was this whole “Satanic Panic” going on where everyone believed some kind of secret evil occultists were working behind the scenes to corrupt society. When the 90s rolled around, most of the stories that started the panic were debunked as false and then everyone… Read more »
Well we’ve got public school teachers bragging on social media about gender grooming children who’re far too young to even know what’s going on. So the belief isn’t entirely far off.
I don’t see how “evil Satanists secretly corrupting society” corresponds with “gender grooming teachers”. No offense, but I notice you gripe about that stuff a whole lot and it’s becoming a bit obsessive.
It would be getting brought up a whole lot less if we didn’t have people in the comment section being so hot and eager to see trans representation and inclusion forcibly injected into a story that simply doesn’t need it.
They were caught on video admitting that they’re going to disregard the wishes of the parents. They even disrespected the parents further by referring to them as “caregivers” as if they were nothing but hired help who didn’t have the authority to speak out in opposition to what was being done.

Good Segue.
Kokie Jones = Cokie Roberts?
Coincidence. Huh? What’s that, Leroy? You don’t believe in coincidence?
Not generally, No.
But I suppose they do happen, after all, we have a word for it.
OTOH, Cokie Roberts was a well-known reporter during a similar time period. A sly reference to an existing, famous reporter who was active in the 90s is statistically more likely than an actual coincidence.
To be perfectly honest, I didn’t make the connection until I read your comment. I mean, I’d heard of Cokie Roberts but it just didn’t connect with me.
Oh! I just looked at Kokie Jones again. He looks suspiciously like a pit bull dog to me.
Cokie Roberts was a woman. I assume same with this character.
Hmm. You could be right. In the first panel, you can just about make out the curves of a bustline.
Funny, I never heard of video games being blamed for sex crimes.
They weren’t; they were blamed for the violence, hence “Media violence” instead of “media sexual violence”.
Disturbingly on topic…

UK police have issued warnings over young children imitating something called ‘Huggy Wuggy’ today…
By chance are those the same UK police who’re currently regarding scissors and pliers as weapons the people have to surrender?
They can be used as such, so they aren’t being stupid.
Actually they are being quite stupid in their position that anything that can be used as a weapon has to be banned. Where does that sort of stupid mentality stop?

Nice to see our young Porcupine heroine again.
Indeed. I was wondering how they might pop in again.
and with this the Witch hunt season is officially open.
Um. witch hunts typically refer to trying to prosecute people on false charges. Real criminals are involved in this.

There was plenty of it in the 90s, too. Anything to avoid facing blame and addressing the real issues.
Pretty sure it was Jestan who got arrested, Leroy was the skunk holding Kaleb what Bennie chased off first.

I meant to say Jestan, but I got their names confused
Laroy.

Yeah. I remember. I just chalked it up to natural selection and the weeding out of weak elements.

You’re welcome. Also, cool your jets. There’s a reason why things get kicked to the mod box.
Ironically this doesn’t seem to be in this story either.
Ironically, actual studies have demonstrated that suicide is subtantially *lower* among TTRPG players than among the general populace.
So if anything it can be argued that D&D *prevents* suicide. 😉
WCLT, nice. Be afraid, and consume. Back to you, Tom.
Oh no. Let me guess, they will start them, “Video Nasties”. Scrap Zootopia all over again.
