You know, I had a thought… There has to be a reason that Flora’s being shouldered with all these kits. I know social workers tend to be overloaded, but something tells me that there is something seriously amiss to make Karen dogpile them on Flora like she is. I mean Bennie kind of fell into her lap and she more or less inherited him, nothing too odd there; but then having talitha puts not only talitha at direct risk of further abuse (specifically from Bennie, even if he’s been shown to be a good egg to us, the system doesn’t… Read more »
Seriously, you have a good point. It is unusual for one single parent that is currently unemployed to be fostering so many kits so soon. But we also got to remember that the story line has only had a day or two of time passing. None of the characters have had time to stabilize themselves to the situation. We have not seen the police gather all the evidence yet. And we do not know if other “things” have been going on that have not been stated in the story. Such as, what other evidence have the police collected.
There is one thing that the caseworker and agency knows very well and will exploit it to its fullest potential, something that they learned early on when Benni was placed in Flora’s care. Flora has the Man given ability to get the kits to tell her things that the KPS agents can’t get. Flora provides the kits a safe and trusting place and the kits feel it, tell Flora things that they most likely know will get back to the agency. There is also the fact that the kits also know that their parents don’t know where they are at… Read more »
The main reason is probably just plot; it’s just easier if all the kids are under one roof. But the in-universe reason is probably the fact that they live in a small, Appalachian town and that they don’t have a lot of available foster parents. The fact that Beth, who’s implied to be a foster child or the like, ended up with Jestan’s family could be a sign of that.
You are forgetting several things. 1) it’s been only a few days from the head injury to the rape of Tanya. 2) the kids _came_ to Flora, through the other kids, Benni through Kaleb, Tali through Benni, and now Beth-Ann through Tanya and Kaleb. 3) Tali being there was rather temporary, going back to her mom rather soon. 4) Beth-Ann is there _very_ temporary, just until an investigator(Carmen Sande..er, Karmen the sheep social worker) can talk to her, and then a place is found for her. 5) The number of foster homes in the area is in ungodly short supply,… Read more »
Has anyone here noticed something about Flora? It hit me yesterday. Flora has that hidden ability to get the kits to communicate, work and problem solve together. If anyone here doubts me, go back to right before Benni fell into Flora’s lap (4-5 years ago our time, roughly 1-3 weeks their time) and watch how Flora treats Benni as a normal kit, not judging him for what he has done and did in the past. Benni has blossomed under Flora’s wings, opening up about what his father had him do and has been working on becoming a better kit. Even… Read more »
I agree, and if I am correct in my assumption, Flora is going to be the elderly Auntie that every kit in town knows to go to when in trouble and will protect with passion. Everyone (or most everyone) who reads this comic knows someone like that in whatever neighborhood(s) they grew up in.
Everybody knows and needs those. Except the kids that come around here. I’m the ‘Crazy Uncle’ that lets them play in the forge and make swords and stuff. Wooden ones for the younger ones, but…yeah. And I’m the one that they ask for advice. I think it’s the workshop, though. Like Santa and WoW had some sort of unspeakable liaison and that’s the result.
The homemade milkshakes might also have something to do with it, though…

Flora is waaay put of line here. She’s reacting more strongly to tanya’s very subdued hostility than she did to the rape itself. Flora on rape: “that was very wrong, now let’s talk about masturbation.” Flora on a child expressing hostility and concern towards someone who committed a deranged assault on her yesterday: “be civil, don’t treat her like garbage!” In context “treating her like garbage” should mean something on the order of “beating the hell out of her, taping her to playground equipment and leaving her to be stabbed and raped.” The message being sent here is that incivility,… Read more »

Well, at least it’s a start in the right direction.
Agreed.

“…I’m beginning to think something really stinks.”
It wasn’t me! I mean, it better not have been the skunk…

That’s a very good, very concerning point.
Maybe sheep lady is involved somehow?

Very nice, Tanya is growing up! I’m glad she understands:

Yeah. Flora’s the ‘Kit-Whisperer’. Fortunately she uses her powers for good.

Wonder if their political representative is someone like him: Anthony Wiener’s shocking answer when asked if he’s changed – YouTube
It takes a lot of strength to calm oneself down. I am proud of Tanya, even if she had to be told to ease her anger.
