All those refusals? Something tells me that this town found out about his relationship with Flora and they don’t accept interspecies relationships. Consequently, they won’t do anything to help either of them.
That’s actually a rather astute observation, and rumor mills in small towns that were pre-internet in our world were astonishingly fast. Damn those old biddies yapping between soap opera breaks and the geezers in the coffee shops!!!!
It only became “official” the literal night before. Sure small town rumor mills are fast, but that’s seems unlikely that Flora is such a noteworthy community individual that it would spread THAT fast.
This is more likely that daytime kitcare was even more an issue in the mid 90’s than it is now.
One of two parents were still “expected” to stay home with the kits. It was especially a challenge in poor areas where both parents had to work and single parent families were much more common.
… The more things change, the more they stay the same.
You would be surprised at the spread of information and gossip in the region that is being portrayed in this comic. And as Flora has rebelled against the church, never underestimate the depths an organized religion will go to help a former member “see” the error of their ways. Those guys? They be vindictive.
Not everyone in town seems to have a problem with interspecies relationships, though, so I doubt all those people would have refused on those grounds. It’s likely just because it’s short notice.
I have my own theory about why Colin’s having so much trouble finding a sitter. I suspect the town they’re living in has a lot more kit trafficking/exploitation occurring than anyone really realizes. With the arrest of Ray word has probably gotten out that the heat is on and everybeast involved is starting to get nervous.

It takes two to tango. And Bennie is two years older than Tanya. Plus he respects Colin and having seen the other side of life, knows a good thing when he has it. This is one gig he really doesn’t want to screw up. Yeah, they might get naked (his default state) but, with Colin’s authority behind him, he may say ‘no’ to several of Tanya’s suggestions. Plus there’s another aspect. For the first time in a long while, Tanya has a friend that she likes. She may quiet down and they just enjoy each other’s company. As for sex, and if she does convince him to… Read more »
Except that both Benny and Tanya are still recovering from sexual abuse, and trying to understand the concept of boundaries (and that there are more things to life than sex). Especially the former, who’s still not used to the fact that he’s allowed to say “no”.
And the very last thing Colin wants is to get into trouble again, this time because of Tanya’s poor impulse control (I can’t edit my post above to add this)
It’s going to be a while before we find out what develops. It’s also morning at Flora’s place, with Talitha supposedly being picked up by relatives and Beth-Anne’s future in a state of flux. So plenty of drama there to be worked through. It might be autumn (at least, in the Northern Hemisphere) before we see Tanya and Benni again.

Suuuuuure she will. 🙄
That was a quick “Yes daddy”
Think this is one of those cases where if she’s good, she knows the rewards are worth it.
One can hope.
what quibble our heroine will use?
That is not a trustworthy expression Tanya…..

I dunno… I stayed by myself during afterschool hours when I was Benni’s age. And was expected to behave myself. Because both of my parents worked.
Of course, that was the late 70s rather than the 90s, but my little brother (who actually was that age in the 90s) had much the same expectations.

Poor Colin. Hopefully, Tanya will behave herself.
See my comment above. 😉

I hate to tell you, but 9 and 11 aren’t too young to be fertile.
It’s *Unlikely*… but not *Impossible*.
Fortunately they are different species.
Well… there *is* that…
Might be forgetting that he’s also in the car so he heard that.
Benni also promised Flora that he wouldn’t do anything sexual with Kaleb.
Maybe he forgot.
