Okay I‘m actually a little surprised that Colin bowed out and let them go through with it. Especially given that I’m pretty sure Benni looked up and saw him. I’m sure it was difficult, and I kind of wish he wasn’t listening to the whole thing, but they need healthy sexual experiences I think, so I think it’s okay that he didn’t rush right in and tell them off.
Your concern isn’t unwarranted. I do plan on addressing this shortfall (mainly because at that point in the story, I literally couldn’t due to the the host where I was posting), but for right now, the two adults are separated, trying to keep peace within the ranks. At the same time, Colin has to come to grips with the more liberal lifestyle that he’s entered into by accepting Flora into his life on his own terms.
I admire Colin’s personal growth and the way he becomes more accepting of things he’s uncomfortable with over time. I think he and Flora are really good together. I realize that the comic is supposed to focus more on the kids, but I guess I wish we got more scenes with them learning about healthy positive relationships just from watching and listening to their parents. Like the tagline of the comic is ‘Life Happens’ not ‘Childhood Sexuality Happens.’ It does and that’s important to acknowledge, but maybe you could slip in a scene where one of the parents was helping… Read more »
Well, the last I checked childhood sexuality is literally part of life.
I think we’ll see more mundane things soon, but right now it’s a flurry of learning and discovery and I believe Campion is trying to establish Tanya’s precociousness now that the pandoras box of knowledge and experience has been forced open earlier than she’d have experienced “normally”.

Okay so looking back at when Colin walked in on them, Benni saw him, and Tanya acknowledged him. It almost seems like there was a part we didn’t see with Colin saying he would be in the other room, and then exiting while huge beads of sweat ran down his face. I’ve enjoyed this comic for a long time now, and continue to look forward to new strips. I’m happy that we’re finally seeing some positive sexual encounters after that rape sequence that took nearly a year to complete. However, that being said, I will make the point once more… Read more »
I hate to disappoint you, but I don’t think the author is drawing this as a fan service comic. The graphic sex is meant to show how children are psychologically damaged by it and don’t behave normally afterward.
I know. That’s why I think when it happens, Tanya should be at the door listening. She could go and try the same thing with Benni, and I’m sure a whole host of consequences would arise from that. I’m not looking for fan service. I just find it a little odd that Campion is so willing to depict children being brutalized, but has never once shown us a healthy consensual hookup between adults. Benni going down on Tanya is the first depiction we’ve gotten of consensual sex, and I’m almost sure they’ll eventually become a couple. Can you imagine what… Read more »
Actually you’re wrong about the consensual part. Not only because Benni and Tanya are underage, but Benni has the mentality that he has to have sex if anybody asks him.
An underaged child is not capable of consenting to sex with an adult, that is 100% true. However everyone knows that plenty of underage kids have sexual encounters with each other. Sometimes it could be argued they start much too early (as Tanya and Benni have probably done here), but they’re still both willing participants. While I get your point about Benni’s mentality, I get the sense that in this case, he actually wants to please Tanya, but is perhaps feeling a bit awkward due to the fact that this might very well be the first time in his life… Read more »
And we didn’t see it. Doesn’t that seem a bit odd. Not saying Campion is wrong for acknowledging sexual assault or childhood sexuality. But it just seems weird that in a comic that’s essentially become about sex, he’s never once shown one adult sexual encounter. I’m not saying it has to happen any time soon, I just want it to happen eventually.
I have every faith in you as a writer and illustrator to eventually address this. I’m not doubting that it will happen. I’m just stating the benefits. Plus I’m sure knowing this comic a whole host of issues would arise from it. Maybe some of them would be funny, maybe some of them would be serious. But issues will arise in no time like so many boners… I’m sorry the opportunity was there. I just had to take it. I called a bunch of the relationship stuff from the start of reading the comic. Thing that would have thrown me… Read more »
They had sex the night >before< Colin talked with Sunnyside's staff after finding out that Hunter got grounded for defending himself (They were unable to find Talitha because she got picked up early by her father, though).
But nothing happened to Tanya until the next morning. In other words, she got raped 2 days after Hunter got molested by Talitha
To make my post less confusing: Day 1: Hunter got molested by Talitha, while Kaleb had a seizure thanks to Jestan and his pals. Both Colin and Flora’s families went to a restaurant and the couple had sex that night. Day 2: Talitha tried to molest Hunter again, but failed and the latter got grounded for pushing her. After being called out by Colin, the staff found out that Tali got picked up early by her father. That night Colin warned Tanya about rape. Day 3: Talitha got segregated and Flora picked her up shortly before Tali’s dad got arrested.… Read more »
You’re right. And honestly, I would have checked if it weren’t for the sheer number of strips to sort through.
I’ve been thinking for awhile about making a timeline that can be referenced listing major events relevant to their strip number… But it’s gonna take a lot of research just to sort the info, let alone making a searchable document.
I still think it would be a good idea. It’s just an.. intimidating project, and I’m not really sure where to start on it.
You have to remember, even though it has been a good while for us readers, in universe only a couple of days have passed between incidents, i’m not quite sure on the whole timeline but all in all colin and flora dont know each other for as long as we readers might feel like due to the length of the comic so their relationship just has not progressed to being sexual yet.
In fact, they did have sex the night when they and their kits went to a restaurant. And 2 days later (shortly after Tanya got raped) they announced their relationship.
But yeah, I think it’s a bit too soon to expect Colin and Flora to get married
I don’t think it should happen soon. I’m just saying I want it to happen eventually. You know I just realized something. I wonder if this entire comic has taken place over one year. I mean it took us nearly an entire year just for one night to go by.
The Pilot to Law and Order: SVU (a show largely focused on sexual crimes and crimes against children) features a line from Elliot Stabler [responding to an inflammatory comment from a lawyer] ”I think sex should be one of the best parts of life. Not the worst. However I do see myself as the father of three children, none of whom I’d want exposed to Mr. [Defendants].., shortcomings.” In other words, as it applies to this comic, it doesn’t make sense to act as though sex is only something to fear. Even SVU tries to occasionally acknowledge the good side… Read more »
i reread the entire comic and did my utter best to track the time that passed, as far as i can tell the entire comic so far has spanned 3 weeks to two months
Oh wow! That’s really not that much considering he started back in 2011. Over a decade for so little time. I’m starting to rethink my theory that the comic will end after a year has passed. You know I never thought to look in the background for calendars.
Now that is one aspect of the whole thing I find highly unrealistic. Are we really supposed to believe that Tanya went from being brutally beaten and sexually assaulted two days or so earlier, and now she’s already giving Benni handjobs and letting him go down on her. I mean I guess I understand that she’s maybe developed an attraction to her rescuer. Still though. I’m not saying it never happens. It just feels a bit rushed. Oh and also Colin and Flora have had sex, it’s just never been shown.
Different people react to stress and trauma in different ways. Some become consumed by it, some refuse to dwell on it and force themselves to move on. We’ve seen that Tanya’s sleep is plagued by nightmares related to what happened, so when she goes to bed it might be rough. But at the moment she’s awake, she’s distracted from the dark thoughts, she sees Benni as a hero and is drawing comfort from his presence, and a lot of things are slowly becoming demystified to her as she goes. So far things are going decently on her own terms, and… Read more »
That’s my theory as to why she latched onto him. And to be honest, I got the feeling as soon as I saw him rescue her that they were eventually going to become a thing.
I was referring to this part: “Then of course Tanya and Talitha come rushing in and congratulate them”
As I’ve said, Talitha will go to the city and be picked up by a relative tomorrow (in the story), so it won’t be likely that she’ll appear again for a while… unless something drastic occurs and she ends up living with Flora’s family (or occasionally visits them along with her mother)
Colin, methinks it’s time you give Flora a call and ask for help as you are clearly out of your depth. Tanya and Benni needs to be brought down before things get out of paw and the two getting a good talking to as to what they are doing is highly inappropriate and wrong. Benni needs to be taught when and how to say no, and Tanya needs some time with Flora to learn about the dangers of playing the way she is and what can and will happen when word gets out.
“You can be polite with a boner, just ask Benni!”
She’s technically correct, the best kind of correct! 😂 😂

Colin, I respect your efforts a trying to do the right thing, or at least what you believe is the right thing, while still getting accustomed to this new lifestyle that Flora convinced you to try.
But Tanya isn’t going to let this matter rest. The best way to address it may be to simply bite the bullet, drop whatever you’re holding, let her see how things are, and insist that there’s not going to be any touching in your case.
So we’re finally back to this. I’m pleasantly surprised that Colin didn’t freak out on the kits. It really shows how he’s trying to be understanding to this whole thing. Still, I do hope this leads to a talk about discretion. Brsides that, I wonder if it would be better for Colin to just keep his pants on since he’s not fully comfortable with everything. The point of letting the kits get naked was because they’re more comfortable that way, but Colin doesn’t seem comfortable so maybe he should just keep on his underwear or some pants until he is.

Pregnancy wouldn’t be an issue since different species can’t interbreed in this comic.

At the beginning?
You deserve and are getting a thumbs up for that snarky comment. Enjoy that thumbs up my furry fiend.

It might happen once they reach the Friday night/Saturday/Sunday part of the story. Their first real weekend together since becoming a couple.
This isn’t about sex, but I wonder how many days have passed since the comic started. I’m sure if I were crazy enough I could make a rough estimate.
All the same, there is no particular reason to show Flora and Colin having sex. The theme is to show the bad aspects of sex, not try to glamorize it.
