I hate to be the nay-sayer, but that’s unlikely to be up to Karmen.
((Speaking as one whose daughter had to jump through nearly infinite hoops to become a foster parent… Seriously there are horror stories about it.))
So…. I understand what you’re saying, but you have to remember that I don’t want to spend 100 strips explaining the ins and outs of the process and vetting.

Everyone LOVES expositional backstories that span decades of writing leaving one wondering just where the story was before the backstory started!

Okay for a moment as I started reading, I thought Karmen was going to ask Flora how she would feel about permanently adopting Benni. I thought “Aww this is gonna be so great when he finds out.” Then I remembered that although a ridiculous amount has happened, it has technically only been a month or so in universe since he started living with her. Flora, if you’ll recall, turned to religion after her husband died and her religion seems to.frowm on such things. Previously, she’d forbidden Kaleb for be nude as well but softened up after Benni came into the picture. From that perspective, it’s understandable why she’d be reluctant to take her clothes, since she still seems to be clinging to it. I do agree about Tanya, though, her quickness to want to indulge herself with Benni is a bit odd in the face of what happened to her. Why would religion be the reason for Flora’s reluctance to be nude? She undoubtedly was influenced by how she was sexually abused as a child and how it made her childhood miserable. Even having Colin as a boyfriend would not have her want to sexually open up to the world. Though this webcomic does not cover politics or social trends, we can assume there would be different attitudes about sexuality and nudity in this world just as is the case nowadays. There must be equivalents of Catherine MacKimmon and Glorian Steinem in this world too.
IIRC it was mentioned in earlier chapters that she kept up the nudist lifestyle even after she was abused and even into her married life and it was only after she joined the Farrians that she turned away from nudity.
To be entirely honest I had actually totally forgotten about Flora being religious. From that standpoint it makes a little sense I suppose. Also I knew very early on that Tanya and Benni would get together. Honestly I have to wonder how much of the story Campion already had planned out in his mind before he started writing/drawing it.
It has been literally less than a week since Flora took in Benni.
Good gravy a lot has happened. Also not doubting you, but how’d you figure that out? I’ve tried to find clues as to how much time has passed. I have this theory that at the end of the comic, only a year will have passed in universe. I guess we’ll see.

It hasn’t been difficult keeping track of how many days have passed since then.
Just a week? I felt like longer than that, but that could be because so much has happened.
Speaking of dates, in one of the panels were Ray talked with his boss about quitting, a calendar was depicted which read “October (?)995”
I’m sure I must have seen it at some point.
The reason Tanya hasn’t gone completely to pieces like other fresh rape victims is because Benni is there with her. He saved her, she knows that, she feels safe with him around. He’s her coping mechanism, bolstering her psychological defense against the strain and stress of thoughts and worries she’s far too young to be forced to dealing with. As long as he’s there, she doesn’t feel like she has to worry, and she doesn’t feel vulnerable.She knows he wouldn’t hurt her, wouldn’t take advantage of her. In fact she WAS going a little bit to pieces at Flora’s house, especially with the nightmare, but I think being at home, her newfound trust and understanding of Bennie and the positive views on sex and her beginning to explore her sexuality in a safer, trusting environment is mitigating a lot of the damage. It was a horrible thing that was done to her, no one is downplaying or glossing over that, but I swear half of the trauma from any bad is how others AROUND you react to it. I totally get what Karmen is saying; anything out of the ordinary would probably make things difficult and nudism would probably be one of those things, since a lot of people see nudity as inherently sexual (which it isn’t but try telling that to some people). That’s what worries me about Colin getting nude with the kids; I feel like once the bombs inevitably start dropping, that will come back to haunt him, while Flora’s lack of nudity will benefit her.
I had to think about about why a family that goes biking🚴🚵 would have scrutiny,
and then I realized they ment motorcycles🏍️.
Now all I can think of is Rusty from the hit show Bluey having old ladies GASP in their seats as he talks about riding his motorbike.
