That’s what i like about Flora. When Benni mentioned that he hurt her son. Like Tanya mentioning the rape. Flora doesn’t go “Oh i alredy knew!”. She acts like its the first time hearing this. I think its because it takes a lot of guts to admit these things. And Flora has been respectful to both Benni and Tanya. Even if they don’t always see eye to eye.
Sadly there’s not a main character in this story that’s managed to escape harm unscathed: Colin is a widower left with two young kits he’s doing his best to raise on his own. Flora was raped as a child, is currently a widow, and tending to two additional kits who aren’t hers, all while being unemployed and unsure of how she’s going to do it. Benni and Tali have experienced multiple kinds of abuse from their parents and have been whored out to others. Tanya’s been assaulted and raped and currently worried something is seriously broken in her. Hunter’s been… Read more »
I’d say, welcome to real life. Everyone has a past story about hurt and loss, some worse than others but everyone has them. The only way we manage to go on is due to the people around is.
That’s unfortunately because divorce is it’s own special kind of evil. One could even argue divorce is a worse kind of evil than rape, as it’s an evil that directly involves lawyers, and the court system, and largely amounts to each party asking the court to inflict maximum legal suffering on the other party through whatever means necessary, simply because they don’t believe the other party has been hurt enough for hurting them first.
I once had a girlfriend who told me about her parents divorcing when she reached adulthood. Her mother died and her father remarried, and she always referred to them as her father and his wife.
Not all divorces are that bad; some divorces do, but plenty of people can divorce amiably and do so with only minimum court involvement. And no, I’d say rape is far worse than a divorce.
I think that Flora, using her own experiences, has this well handled. It’s sad and wretched that this had to be Tanya’s first experience and not having any say in who she gave that most special of gifts to, but I think Flora’s got this. 🙁
Oh man, this comic hits hard on me. I wish I had understanding parents like Flora.

Maybe it’s just me, but the way Tanya is talking and is laid out on the bed, it make me think of someone bringing their car to the mechanic to get fixed up.

Puberty itself is when a lot of kids say their body is ‘broke’ so I can see why she’d think that.
Bless Flora for being such a good rabbit.

It’s too bad Tanya’s first sexual experience had to be rape.
The story with Flora herself, not to mention Benni and Talitha.

She seems more upset about something being broke than the actual rape itself kids are tough resilient things!
But not invincible. Kids don’t “bounce back” from divorce, as was mentioned years ago.
