I remember years ago how little kids wanted to be Napoleon Dynamite for Halloween and I saw the “VOTE FOR PEDRO” bumper stickers, so I rented the movie expecting a comedy classic. It was the stupidest and unfunniest movie I ever saw, and I only watched it waiting to see what was so wonderful about it. No wonder there was no sequel.
My friends thought Napoleon Dynamite was the funniest thing at the time. He was like “watch it, you’ll love it. It’s hilarious” I watched it in full, I don’t think I even laughed once. It was just stupid and boring.
I think the entertainment factor depends entirely on what age you are when you see it. I was about 20 when I first saw the film and I liked it for what it was.
It’s kind of like the Star Wars trilogy. A lot of us saw it when we were young and got taken in by it because of the age at which we saw it. If we saw it for the first time when we were adults, it wouldn’t have captivated us nearly as much.
Star Wars was very popular when it first came out and I was 12. But I never followed the series or was even much into it, though I did a Darth Vader throw pillow for home economics class.
Another irony is that there was a house party where everyone was supposed to watch a video. With nothing specifically planned, I decided to bring a copy of “Slap Shot” since it was supposed to have been a classic. Everyone liked it but me! (Though the striptease scene on the hockey rink was hilarious.)

Benny looks very confused until the topic of ice cream comes up
Super Mario Brothers I assume?
How good is that movie?
It very much isn’t… but it’s worth watching anyhow.

It’s a damn side better than Freddy Got Fingered. But then again that’s not saying much.
And THAT movie had child molesting jokes in it!

We, my friends and I, were around 18 or 19 years old.

Still captivated.
At least, until The latest round of movies which I pretend never happened.
I did see part of “Attack Of The Clones” before I fell asleep in the theater.
It’s likely a reference to the *original* Super Mario Brothers (1993) starring Bob Hoskins.
