This is actually going to become (or should) a real problem. Benni is an otter, the Velouxs are rabbits. Otters are considered opportunistic omnivores (but with a heavy protein-based diet), while rabbits are more or less strict vegetarians.
Even considering how the animals may have been changed by the Masters, Benni certainly wouldn’t be an exclusive vegetarian. Flora’s going to have to take that into account with meals, or Benni’s health could suffer (more than it has already)
Beets and potatoes? Reasonable amount of protein there, interesting she choose those particular vegetables since they are quite high in protein as far as inexpensive non-meats go.
It sounds like Flora is already adjusting their meals, which makes sense to me since I’d expect such things to be well understood between predator and prey species that predators would need more protein in their diets.
We don’t know yet how beast digestion works because Campion hasn’t covered it yet (if it ever becomes relevant)…
But there is *negligible* protein in potatoes and beets, compared to Benni’s needs, if he is anything at all like a true wild otter. There’s 4 grams of protein in a medium sized potato. Benni is likely to require more than 52 grams daily. He’ll need MORE when he enters his teen years. That’s assuming a more human-like digestive system.
That’s not even to mention Colin, Tanya, and Hunter, who are almost certainly exclusive carnivores.
An earlier strip showed that breaded chicken fingers and sushi are foods eaten in this world so if Flora has no reasonable objections that could help out some.

Maybe they have protein supplement drinks, tho. 😉
